Remote Learning INFORMATION
CLASS SCHEDULE & CHANGES
The bell schedule formerly used for "remote" days in the hybrid model now applies to all days, 9am - 2:40pm. Classes are block-scheduled so cohorts have the same subjects at the same time while maintaining the same teachers as before. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical Education (PE) has been added for every grade. Sixth graders now have their HEALTH class incorporated into PE. Gym will incorporate a fitness tracker as well as other activities. The PE department will provide more information. LIBRARY Students can now drop into Ms. Goldfarb's Library Zoom session during their lunch period to check-out books and request recommendations. Reading logs are still required and must be returned each week to Ms. Goldfarb via Google Classroom.
ART AND MUSIC Both ART and MUSIC classes have now been added to 6th grade schedules. EARLY ACADEMY
Although Early Academy is not required, students are strongly encouraged to attend their choice of teacher's office hours or utilize the time as a work period. Teachers will reach out to struggling students to use their Early Academy period. ATTENDANCE
Although all students are now 100% remote, attendance is still taken. Students are expected to arrive on time and stay until dismissed by the teacher, every day. As is our policy, we expect students' cameras to be on during class. If a student does not appear in Zoom class when scheduled, he/she/they will be marked absent. If a student must be absent, please e-mail absent@ms54.org. |
VIRTUAL AFTER-SCHOOL
The Winter After-School program runs the weeks of January 11 - March 22, 2021 (Art Portfolio with The Jewish Museum begins January 4, 2021). Confirmation e-mails were sent by Anne Pejovich to all registered students. Zoom links from the teachers were sent January 8 - 11, 2021. All classes for the winter session will be remote regardless of whether in-person school begins again or not. Note that parents/guardians are responsible for legal supervision of your child since the teacher cannot have eyes on your child at all times. Please reach out to Parent Coordinator, Anne Pejovich with any questions. Payment for the winter session is a pay-what-you-wish donation. If you are able, please help offset the cost of teachers' time by making a donation. HEALTH CARE & MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
The Ryan Health Center at Booker T. remains open for appointments. Mental health resources and support are available from the school's psychologists and interns to all students and families. FOOD, SCHOOL SUPPLIES, TECH NEEDS
Meal distribution via the DOE is available 8am - 12pm at every school building each day. If you have any supply, tech or food needs, please contact Parent Coordinator, Anne Pejovich. |
