MS 54 Ride for Your Hide: A 45-minute Soul Cycle ride is slated for early April (date to be confirmed prior to our February 8 meeting), with the goal of raising $5,000 in a one night! We need committee co-chairs to head up this effort and for riders of all levels to fill the 52 available seats. We are counting on everyone who wants to get in shape before the summer to grab a bike. Soul Cycle is located in a beautiful new facility next to Equinox at 77th Street & Amsterdam. Details to follow.

To celebrate the end of March Madness, the first annual MS 54 Student-Teacher Basketball Tournament will be held on April 3 at 6:00pm. This is a school fun-raiser and we want teachers and students of all playing levels to have fun and participate. You don't have to be on the official school basketball teams to play! Students from all three grade levels of the Core & Delta programs...rise to this occasion! Modell's will donate a sports basket for our raffle. click for more information.

May News

MS 54 Walk-A-Thon: The main event, walking the loops of Morningside Park, is slated for Sunday, May 6, to be preceded by a student-led clean up of Morningside Park in April. We'll need lots of parents to rally for this community event sponsored by TDBank. Mini-backpacks, pedometers and complimentary bottles of water are just some of the things you'll receive when you register to walk! To volunteer please contact at Kirsten Brashares.

DELTA/CORE Team for Aids Walk New YOrk -- May 20:
At last year's AIDS Walk New York, a team called DELTA/CORE (organized by Howard Chirlin, school social worker for MS 54) raised over $2,000. Mr. Chirlin is organizing a team for this year's walk, and would greatly appreciate our community's continued involvement. Next week, he will leave a stack of sponsor forms for students and teachers to pick up in the main office; forms include the fax number to which forms should be submitted. The 6 mile walk is Sunday, May 20. The team will meet at the 8:30am start time near the entrance to Central Park at 59th St./5th Ave. Adults are encouraged to bring children to/from the walk or have them buddy up with other students. If you have any questions, you may reach Mr. Chirlin at Booker T: 212-678-2861, ext. 1088; cell: 347-740-3638; e-mail: Hchirlin@schools.nyc.gov. AIDS Walk New York benefits GMHC and 40 other AIDS service organizations in the tri-state area.
