Looking for a juggler, clown, magician, musician, dancer, acrobat, or other variety performer under age 21From: Viveca Gardiner Hello! Are you or someone you know a juggler, clown, magician, musician, dancer, acrobat, or other variety performer under age 21? We want to put you in the spotlight! The next Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Cavalcade of Youth performance will be Sunday, October 18, 5pm, at the Coney Island Circus Sideshow! This is an exciting chance to perform in a historic venue. The shows always attract a great audience and often are featured in the media. If you would like to participate, please reply by October 5 (sooner is better)! There are no advance rehearsals; you will need to be in the theater a few hours before the show. Find out more about this program at http://bindlestiff.org/menu/youtheducation.html#cavalcade If you're not ready to perform, come see the show! It's going to be wonderful, and you can meet the producers to talk about preparing an act for next time. The Cavalcade performs three to four times per year. Also, please help spread the word--both to potential audience members and to potential performers. The official press release with ticket and venue information is below (and a pretty version is attached--perfect for printing and posting). Thanks and best wishes to all. I look forward to hearing from you! Email is best or call with any questions: 212-989-4718. Viveca Gardiner *Apologies if you're getting multiple copies of this or only getting it as a forward--email us to ask for your own copy, update your contact information, or request to leave this mailing list. Thanks! Coney Island USA presents What: Bindlestiff Family Cirkus’s Cavalcade of Youth Bindlestiff Family Cirkus presents a special showcase for young variety performers, ranging from amateurs to world-class professionals. Juvenile jugglers, diminutive dancers, adolescent acrobats and a host of other moppets and mummers present a full show of vernal vaudeville. Acts range from debuting amateurs to world-class champion performers—all under the age of 21. In its sixth year, Bindlestiff’s Cavalcade continues to feature an amazing array of young talent. These are the future stars of Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Coney Island Sideshow, and television. Where else can you see juvenile unicyclists, tap dancers, magicians, clowns, and contortionists sharing the stage with Broadway-bound singers and classically trained musicians? All the performers are under 21, but audience members of all ages love this show. Since its inception in January 2004, Bindlestiff's Cavalcade of Youth (COY) program has grown markedly. In September 2006, COY participants were featured performers in the Speigeltent at the South Street Seaport. In the past two years COY has led circus skills education programs at Abrons Arts Center, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, and after-school programs throughout the Empire State. In summer 2009, COY participated in the American Youth Circus Festival in Illinois. |
