Beacon High School Admissions Process Change

Sent on behalf of Mr. Bayard Faithful

Dear Middle School Principals and School Counselors,

Please be advised that a change has been made to The Beacon School's
admissions process.

In order to interview, students must also submit a portfolio (a folder containing best work).

This year we are requesting that students submit their Admissions Portfolio at least one week before
their interview date so that teachers have an opportunity to read them carefully.

Students must bring their Admissions Portfolio to the office of Judy
Moore, Beacon's Parent Coordinator, Room 106 at The Beacon School. The
Admissions Portfolio can also be mailed to Beacon. Students should leave
time so that the Admissions Portfolio arrives at Beacon at least one week
before the interview. The mailing address is: Ms. Judy Moore, Parent
Coordinator, Beacon School, 227 W. 61st Street, New York, NY 10023.

Applicants must make sure that the Admissions Portfolio is labeled with
their name, middle school, and interview date. As a reminder, this
portfolio must include:

1. A paper or project written for an English, social studies, humanities,
science or math class in 7th or 8th grade that exemplifies the student's
best work. Comments and/or grade from teacher must be included.

2. A one-page typed paper on ways that you have shown a special dedication
to or a special talent
for the arts, technology, community service, an
academic subject, or sports.

3. 7th grade report card.

Portfolios will not be returned to applicants.
You may include photocopies of work. For more information, please see the
Admissions section of the Beacon web site, or contact the admissions
office at admissions@beaconschool.org.

Best regards,
Bayard Faithfull
Admissions Coordinator
